Happy New Year! Feliz Año Nuevo! It’s a new year with a big TBR stack already…
I’m listening to audiobooks more than ever before and reading non-fiction as well as fiction. I love short stories, too, and find so many great anthologies these days. On audio, I’m currently engrossed in Blake Crouch’s parallel universe story Dark Matter. I’ve barely started reading Julia Alvarez’s In the Time of the Butterflies. In non-fiction, I recently finished Walter Isaacson’s bio Elon Musk as well as The Big Myth by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway. I’m now on Matthew Desmond’s Poverty in America. I’m scratching the short story itch with a couple of anthologies I picked up at Bouchercon 2023. One is Groovy Gumshoes, edited by Michael Bracken, a stash of retro crime tales, another is Small Horrors by Darcy Coates, 50 super-short creepies, little chills up the spine.
